Line-narrowing Speci’roscopy in Amorphous Solids through Polarization Detection of Spectral Holes. I. Principles

چکیده

Detection of spectral satellite holes by polarization spectroscopy is proposed as a method to measure the line-narrowed eleo tronic absorption spectrum of a large molecule in an amorphous solid at low temperature. The linewidths of the zero-phonon holes yield information about molecular dephasing and the correlation of the inhomogeneous distribution of the two molecular transitions involved in the hole-burning and the detection step. Constructive or destructive interference of the signal light field with an intentionally admixed background light field yields information on the symmetry of vibronic states.

Line-narrowing Spectroscopy in Amorphous Solids through Polarization Detection of Spectral Holes. Ii. Application to Tetraphenylporphin in Pmma

Polarization spectroscopy of photochemically produced spectral holes has been used to obtain the line-narrowed spectrum of the first electronic transition of meso-tetraphenylporphin (TPP) in a PMMA matrix at 10 IL The spectral holes have been burned through irradiation with a pulsed dye laser into the spectral region of several vibronic transitions with overlapping inhomogeneous bands. The corr...

Femtosecond Dephasing Studies of Dye Molecules in a Polymer Host

The optical dephasing properties of molecular impurities in low-temperature amorphous solids have been extensively studied in recent years as a means of probing the host environment. Solid State NMR Probe Design

The majority of solids NMR experiments today are driven by biological applications in rigid macromolecules, where even the most advanced liquids methods are limited by the spectral resolution they can achieve. Obtaining detailed structural information from NMR of solid samples is often more technically demanding than for liquids because of the absence of molecular tumbling in solids to average ...

Design of Photonic Crystal Polarization Splitter on InP Substrate

In this article, we suggested a novel design of polarization splitter based on coupler waveguide on InP substrate at 1.55mm wavelength. Photonic crystal structure is consisted of two dimensional (2D) air holes embedded in InP/InGaAsP material with an effective refractive index of 3.2634 which is arranged in a hexagonal lattice. The photonic band gap (PBG) of this structure is determined using t...

Coherent optical ultrasound detection with rare-earth ion dopants.

We describe theoretical and experimental demonstration for optical detection of ultrasound using a spectral hole engraved in cryogenically cooled rare-earth ion-doped solids. Our method utilizes the dispersion effects due to the spectral hole to perform phase-to-amplitude modulation conversion. Like previous approaches using spectral holes, it has the advantage of detection with large étendue. ...
